IT Training
If you’d like to learn some IT skills, or brush up the ones you already have, Jobs in Mind runs a range of in-house IT training courses, from complete beginner level to more advanced.
As an IT trainee, you’ll receive plenty of support, enabling you to work at your own pace and skill level.
What is covered in the courses?
Trainees can study towards gaining eDCC certificates at Beginners, Intermediate and Advanced level in any of the following subjects:
- Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, Access and Powerpoint
- Windows XP
There are further optional topics such as:
- Internet Browsing and email
- File management
How long do the courses last?
The course consists of two sessions per week, for a maximum of 12 months, (including a six-week trial period of one session per week). Service users attending the IT training programme must be able to commit to at least one session per week. After six weeks trainees may be offered a second session. Training sessions are run Monday to Friday from 10.20am-1.00pm and 2.00-4.00pm.
The training takes place at Jobs in Mind. Our IT suite has eight PCs running Windows and Microsoft Office.
Who can attend the training?
In order to be eligible for a place on the IT training programme, you need to meet the following criteria:
- A history of mental health problems.
- A resident of Camden. (If you live outside Camden we may be able to offer you a place on a spot-funded basis).
- Aged 18 or over.
- Appropriate mental health support in place, i.e. care coordinator, keyworker, psychiatrist, GP etc.
- Able to commit to two sessions per week (2 hour session Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday) for up to 12 months.
- Free of any drug and alcohol problems for at least six months.
- No history of physical violence towards another person for least 12 months. If you have a recent history of aggressive behaviour, we will need details about the context of the behaviour, and a copy of any risk assessments, before we can decide whether we can accept your referral.
